Celebrate the Lunar New Year with Bristol’s most popular annual celebration

Posted on: 06 Feb 2024

Wai Yee Hong’s Lunar New Year celebrations return this year, welcoming in the Year of the Dragon with a vibrant and FREE event catering for the whole family.

Lunar New Year at Wai Yee Hong Chinese Super Market will take place on Saturday 10 February 2024.

This always popular celebration will once again feature dance and martial arts performances as well as the traditional lion dance. While the event is free to attend, Wai Yee Hong will be raising money for Wallace & Gromit’s The Grand Appeal, with collection boxes well placed on the day.

This year, to ensure that as many people get to enjoy the New Year celebrations as possible, there will be two performances – one at 11 AM and another at 1.30 PM. This year’s acts will include the South Gloucestershire Chinese Association, Clevedon School Elite Dancers, Yi Quin Lion Dance Troupe, and Bristol Wutan Tai Chi & Kung Fu.

In addition to these festivities, Wai Yee Hong will be running their popular street food market, boasting a wide variety of delicious regional foods from stalls as well as children’s activities such as face painting. You’ll be able to pick up tasty, locally-made Chinese pastries and hot drinks from the shop’s cake stall!

If that’s not enough, 5 Foot Way will once more be firing up their wok to serve their signature Char Koay and other Malaysian delights. There will also be appearances from newcomers CUPP Bubble Tea and popular Thai stall, Desy Thai.

Returning favourites include Wok ‘N’ Roll, serving vegan-friendly ricer bowls and banh mi to celebrate T?t, and the fantastic Gopal’s Curry Shack, with their wonderful vegan and vegetarian Indian street food.

Wai Yee Hong have also persuaded the mysterious Duckman to return this year, armed with his popular BBQ roast meats and rice. Other offerings include She Sells Sushi, the crazy Ninjo noodle bar and, away from the food, award-winning face painting and (biodegradable) glitter tattoo specialists, Wow Faces.

Lunar New Year at Wai Yee Hong Chinese Super Market will take place on Saturday 10 February 2024 and is FREE to attend – performances are scheduled for 11 AM and 1.30 PM.
