Electro indie favourites Future Islands to play massive Bristol show this summer

Posted on: 31 Jan 2024

Known for their sleek synth-pop sound as well as charismatic frontman Samuel T. Herring’s crooner vocals and iconic howls, Future Islands are one of indie’s most respected acts.

Future Islands play Bristol Beacon’s Beacon Hall on Sunday 28 July 2024.

If Future Islands’ songs once seemed like invitations to witness scenes from someone else’s life, their recently released seventh album, People Who Aren’t There Anymore, presents us with the whole absorbing saga, transforming hurt into hope in the triumph of the band’s career.

General tickets will be available from 10 AM on Friday 2 February 2024.

From the very start – the band first started making music together in 2003 while studying at East Carolina University – Future Islands have been unique and instantly identifiable. Samuel T. Herring’s life-worn croons and cries are backlit by guitarist Gerrit Welmers’ melodies and powered on by the rhythms of William Cashion and Michael Lowry.

This winning premise has not changed on the band’s latest effort, People Who Aren’t There Anymore, but the people have. The pain and joy in Herring’s voice is only rivalled by the band’s legendary live performances, but never captured in their studio albums – this feels as though it’s been untethered for the first time.

Already popular within indie music circles, Future Islands truly burst into the public consciousness with a stunning appearance on Late Night with David Letterman, particularly due to Herring’s captivating dancing.

The UK leg of Future Islands’ 2024 world tour will see the band perform at Latitude Festival in Southwold, London’s Crystal Palace Bowl, Bristol Beacon, Glasgow’s Kelvingrove Bandstand and Newcastle City Hall. Browse the full list of tour dates on the band’s website.
