One of rap’s most idiosyncratic figures is coming to Bristol later this year

Deeply influential Detroit rapper Danny Brown is making a long-awaited appearance in Bristol in May as he tours his critically acclaimed sixth album, Quaranta.

 

Danny Brown will play O2 Academy Bristol on Friday 24 May 2024.

 

Quaranta – which came out in November– is Brown’s first solo release in more than four years and signalled a big year for the enigmatic artist who also released a celebrated joint album, Scaring The Hoes, with JPEGMAFIA. Tickets for this show go on general sale tomorrow, Friday 19 January 2024.

With a zany, instantly recognisable personality that blends his tough roots and leftfield approach to his art, Danny Brown’s success will forever be intertwined with internet culture. Drawing on his experiences of drug dealing and addiction as well as his razor-sharp humour, Brown has delivered some of the most playful, vulgar bars of his era.

 

Something of a hip-hop eccentric, lauded for his ability to rap over ‘anything’, Brown emerged as a member of the group Reser’vor Dogs in the 2000s. His early solo career was stifled due to his unique style – 50 Cent supposedly refused to sign him due to his fashion sense – but this did not phase him.

 

Throughout his career, Brown has received widespread acclaim for 2012’s XXX, 2013’s Old and Warp released albums Atrocity Exhibition (2016) and uknowwhatimsayin? (2019), which featured production from luminaries including the Alchemist, Q-Tip and more.

 

Known as something of a rappers’ rapper, Danny Brown has collaborated with the likes of Run The Jewels, Kendrick Lamar, Earl Sweatshirt, Eminem, Big Sean, Insane Clown Posse, ASAP Rocky, BADBADNOTGOOD, Brockhampton and, most recently, JPEGMAFIA.

 

As well as Bristol, Danny Brown’s Quaranta tour will see him play UK and Irish venues in London, Birmingham, Manchester, Glasgow and Dublin. The rapper was previously scheduled to play in Bristol in 2020 but the show was cancelled so this is sure to prove a popular one!
