Bristol Old Vic announce new additions to their Spring 2024 season
Posted on: 16 Jan 2024With a season already packed with theatrical delight, the UK’s oldest continuously running theatre have announced a new roster of thought-provoking productions.
Theatre lovers can expect a dynamic blend of award-winning plays, youth-led showcases, reggae tales from the Windrush generation, existential cabarets and more, all running between April and July 2024.

First up we have the world premiere of the award-winning play No More Mr Nice Guy. This gripping narrative revolves around Keloughn Douglas, a British-Caribbean music teacher struggling with his aspirations for senior leadership, a successful music career and his yearning to marry the love of his life.
No More Mr Nice Guy runs from Wednesday 3 to Saturday 6 April 2024, grab your tickets HERE.
Next is Young Ferment, a collaboration between Young SixSix, Young Company and Bristol Old Vic’s artist development department. The programme allows emerging writers, composers, directors and devisors to develop creative ideas with assistance from a professional team.
Ferment runs from Thursday 11 until Saturday 13 April 2024, tickets can be found HERE.
The Last Show Before We Die also comes to Bristol Old Vic in April. Written and performed by Ell Potter and Mary Higgins, this existential cabaret about the big things in life (and death) brings together found audio and original interviews in a genre-bending verbatim feast.

Up next is The King of Reggae, presented by Rush Theatre Company, the company that brought you the critically acclaimed RUSH – A Joyous Jamaican Journey. This show will see classics such as ‘One Love’, ‘No Woman No Cry’ and ‘Is This Love’ played live onstage as Rush tell the story of the man who brought reggae music to the world.

Moving onto July now and the Papatango Prize-winning Some Demon from playwright Laura Waldren. The play follows Sam and Zoe who have their most intimate secrets exposed as they form a complicated bond. They don’t have much in common, just a love of 80s New Wave and a deadly illness.
Some Demon runs from Tuesday 9 until Saturday 13 July 2024, secure tickets HERE.
The final newly announced production is the previously mentioned RUSH: A Joyous Jamaican Journey. This acclaimed show tells the story of Reggae from the arrival of the Windrush Generation and how the stories, history and music have evolved throughout history.
