Slapstick Festival add Last Leg host Adam Hills to their 2024 lineup

Posted on: 15 Jan 2024

Bristol’s annual celebration of silent and classic screen comedy will be welcoming the celebrated Australian comedian as the star of a newly added Desert Island Comedy Flicks event.

Slapstick Festival will welcome Adam Hill MBE to Bristol Old Vic on Sunday 18 February 2024.

The Slapstick Festival show will be a rare live appearance from the much-loved host of award-winning Channel 4 series THE LAST LEG, disability champion and novelist and will see him nominate the comedy films he’d most want to be marooned with on a desert island. This event replaces one that was going to focus on Alan Bleasdale’s dark comedy, G.B.H.

Speaking about the new announcement, Festival Director Chris Daniels has said: “A scheduling clash regrettably means we’re having to delay the G.BH show until later on but we’re delighted we can now bring Adam Hills on board.

“He is famous for his quick wit, mastery of slapstick-inspired pranks and his knowledge and love of many styles of comedy. So, we’re expecting much hilarity and some very interesting film choices!”

Ticket holders for the G.B.H event are being asked if they want their bookings held until the new date, transferred to the new Adam Hills event, refunded or changed to the final event of Slapstick’s five-day festival, an in-conversation and awards presentation to G.B.H star Robert Lindsay, taking place at Bristol Old Vic on Sunday 18 February.

Another change to the original programme will see Adam Hills join Mike McCartney at Bristol Beacon’s Lantern Hall on Saturday 17 February as Mike reminisces about the silents he watched as a child with his brother Sir Paul and his own musical adventures, peppered with the pair’s favourite Buster Keaton clips and shorts.

Slapstick Festival runs from Wednesday 14 to Sunday 18 February 2024 with the likes of Samira Ahmed, Hugh Bonneville, Harry Hill, Robin Ince, Sylvester McCoy, Christina Newland and Tim Vine to name but a few. Find out more from the festival’s website.
