Bristol Light Festival adds more exciting installations for the February event

Posted on: 27 Dec 2023

Organisers of the much-loved city centre spectacle have today announced three new-to-Bristol installations alongside the return of popular festival favourites.

Bristol Light Festival will run from Friday 2 until Monday 11 February 2024.

Illuminating Bristol during the depths of winter when we need it most, the Bristol Light Festival will once again bring a combination of light, sound and colour from artists around the South West. Attracting 250,000 visitors in 2023, next year’s festival is sure to once more prove a popular attraction!

Bristol Light Festival 2024 will feature two city centre offerings from This Is Loop, a Somerset-based collaborative partnership between artists Harriet Lumby and Alan Hayes, known for large-scale installations.

Their first installation, PULSE, is an immersive audio-visual installation that explores perspectives of perception by inviting visitors to step inside massive rings of light made up of 14,000 LEDs. The piece is a collaboration with audio artist Dan Bibby, AKA Weatherbrow who has a high-intensity, fast-paced piece to accompany the installation.

This Is Loop’s second piece is Emergence, an award-winning audio-visual piece created as a place of contemplation, away from the world’s chaos. A huge, mirrored structure, it is designed to provide audiences with a new perspective of a once familiar space. Each section features an optical illusion, creating distinct experiences for the viewer.

The third newly announced installation is Atelier Sisu’s Elysian. Inspired by the ever-changing nature of the world, visitors are immersed in huge, illuminated inflatable arches. The work is described as “at the precipice of change” by the Sydney-based artist and is inspired by the connection between art and architecture.

Returning this year is Swing Song, a standout installation at previous editions of the festival. A series of six swings, this children’s favourite is set to specially composed music which plays as the audience swings back and forth with one swing controlling the bassline, one the melody and one the percussion.

Bristol Light Festival will run from Friday 2 until Monday 11 February 2024 and is sure to prove yet another smash-hit success! Find out more from the festival website.
