A word said, an action out of place, the opening of old wounds, none of which can be undone. Until now, Gregor Samsa has woken up each morning, quietly left to catch the same train, and worked hard to pay off the family debt. However, that world explodes on this morning of brutal metamorphosis.

Representing their first new commission since 2019, Frantic Assembly and Lemn Sissay OBE have joined forces to present this gripping new adaptation of Metamorphosis: combining the fluidity and lyricism of Sissay’s adaptation with Frantic’s uncompromising physicality.

This sensational new piece promises to be an unmissable retelling of Kafka’s shocking tale of cruelty and kindness; a visceral and vital depiction of the struggle to operate within a system that crushes them beneath its heel.

Formed 25 years ago, Frantic Assembly are now known as one of the UK’s best-loved companies thanks to their brave and bold approach and dynamic physicality. Lemn Sissay MBE is a BAFTA-nominated international prize-winning writer; a literary powerhouse recognised all over the world.

Those wishing to find out more about the adaptation will be able to attend a stage talk featuring Lemn Sissay MBE in conversation with Bristol Old Vic’s Artistic Director Nancy Medina, discussing Metamorphosis alongside Sissay’s illustrious career.
