Modern stand-up pioneer Ben Elton announces 2024 Bristol show

The undisputed godfather of modern stand-up is taking to the road of a massive autumn tour of the UK and Ireland with his new show, ‘Authentic Stupidity’.

 

Ben Elton will appear at Bristol Beacon’s Beacon Hall on Thursday 12 September 2024.

 

Having first exploded onto the scene back in the 1980s as host of Channel 4’s groundbreaking Saturday Live show, Elton has been setting the standard for gag-filled taboo-busting ever since. He returned to the stage for the first time in fifteen years back in 2019 with a sold-out UK tour.

Award-winning comedian, novelist, playwright, writer and lyricist Ben Elton was raised in South-East London before going to study drama in Manchester. Rising from the UK’s alternative comedy movement in the 80s, he went on to pen award-winning series such as The Young Ones, Blackadder, The Thin Blue Line and The Man From Auntie.

 

Over the years he has co-hosted the Nelson Mandela Celebration, hosted the Brit Awards and the Royal Variety Performance – always writing his own material. In addition to his celebrated stand-up shows, Elton has lent his writing talents to legendary theatre productions such as Silly Cow, Popcorn, We Will Rock You and more.

 

Speaking about his upcoming UK tour, Elton has said: “Since my last live tour a whole new existential threat has emerged to threaten humanity! Apparently, Artificial Intelligence is going to destroy us all! Well, I reckon our real problem isn’t Artificial Intelligence it’s good old-fashioned Authentic Stupidity! Forget AI! It’s AS we need to be worrying about!”

 

Elton’s first tour in five years will see the legendary comic drop by venues in York, Newcastle, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen, Nottingham, Birmingham, Sheffield, Bristol, Leeds, Swindon, Cardiff, Wolverhampton, Coventry, Ipswich, Oxford, Portsmouth, Weston-Super-Mare, Yeovil, Belfast, Dublin, Liverpool, Leicester, London and more.
