Beloved podcast exploring the language of football is coming to Bristol

Posted on: 14 Dec 2023

Since 2020, the Football Clichés podcast have been on a relentless journey to find the true meaning of the beautiful game, delving into depths of football you never knew you cared about.

The Football Clichés podcast live show will appear at Bristol’s 1532 Performing Arts Centre on Monday 11 March 2024.

After a sell-out run of dates across the UK and Ireland in 2022, the Clichés pod is going back on the road, presenting its unique angle on the modern game to football fans all over the country. Join the Adjudication Panel of Adam Hurrey, Charlie Eccleshare and David Walker for the most pedantic footballing night of all time!

Why do we talk about it the way we do? Just how big is a “pocket” of space? What’s the least impressive thing that football could consider “a classy touch”? Which is worse: a “carthorse” or a “donkey”? How many errors constitute “a comedy of errors”? What’s the worst football scene in cinema history? What’s the most “kit launch pose” you can strike?

The Clichés team are willing to answer all these questions and more as they delve into the minutia of the game that we love so dearly. Hurrey created Football Clichés as a blog back in 2007 and turned it into a critically acclaimed book in 2014.

After moving to renowned subscription-based sports website The Athletic, Hurrey started the Clichés podcast and - alongside regular co-hosts Charlie Eccleshare and Adam Hurrey – they have welcomed esteemed guests such as Keir Starmer, Jamie Carragher and Kelly Cates.

Next year’s Football Clichés live tour will see Adam, Charlie and David drop by special venues in Manchester, Birmingham, Dublin, Leeds, Bristol and London. Full details of the tour can be found here.
