Bristol Club Highlights - November 2018

Posted on: 01 Nov 2018

It'd be foolish of us not to shine a light on the best of Bristol's bustling nightlife scene, and so with the Club Highlights series we'll be providing you with a monthly list of the best club nights in the city, taking into account some of the best-known acts and venues as well as some you might never have heard of. Bristol clubs are set to welcome some of the hottest underground talent on the scene through their doors this month, including DJ Nobu for the third and final part of Timedance's Final Chapter series, a hotly-anticipated appearance from New Zealand duo Chaos in the CBD and an all-night set from the one and only Mr Scruff at the end of the month. Check out all the details below.

Just Jack's Return to the Laserdome is set to bring Ben UFO, DJ Bone and more to Motion this month.

Just Jack Return to the Laserdome @ Motion, Friday 2nd November

Just Jack's renowned Halloween party is back for 2018 at the start of November, boasting one of their best lineups to date featuring Ben UFO, Tama Sumo, DJ Bone and more. While those three take care of the specially-customised Laserdome, Bufiman and 2018 up-and-comer Vladimir Ivkovic will be taking the reigns in The Tunnel and Just Jack residents Tom Rio, Dan Wild and Jethro will, as always, be hosting their very own secret stage on the night. There's sure to be loads of Halloween events on this weekend but none of them will be anything like this one - don't miss the return to the Laserdome.

In:Motion The Blast Carnival of the Dead @ Motion, Saturday 3rd November

The Blast is curating one of the hardest nights of the 2018 In:Motion series in the first weekend of November, with no corner of Motion left unused as more than 30 artists descend onto the former skate park for this year's Carnival of the Dead. Shy FX, Mysterious UK rap phenomenon CASisDEAD, Bristol duo Kahn & Neek and more will be in control of Motion's main room all night, while the likes of Critical Music, Ed Rush, Nina Las Vegas are among the most anticipated artists from the rest of the roster who'll be shelling The Marble Factory, The Tunnel and The Cave until the sun starts to creep up at the 6am finish.

Mix Nights Showcase 011 @ The Love Inn, Wednesday 7th November

Mix Nights will be showcasing some of Bristol's top female talent once again at The Love Inn in November.

Mix Nights is back with their 11th group of pupils, ready to share their skills and top-notch selections with The Love Inn! The project, fronted by Bristol Women In Music, is an informal teaching series that invites women in Bristol to develop and hone their DJ skills is an encouraging and safe environment. With Bristol DJs Shanti Celeste and Em Williams both involved in the initiative, you can be sure that Mix Nights' eleventh showcase will be an upbeat, carefree journey through several genres and styles, with anyone and everyone welcome to get down and check out the debuts of their latest pupils. Timedance: The Final Chapter Part Three @ The Island, Saturday 10th November

After a three-year run of timeless parties in The Cells, the Timedance boys are calling time on their beloved events. Their parties since 2015 have brought some huge names to Bristol, including Ben UFO and DJ Stingray, but alas, all good things must come to an end. In true style, the Bristol label has announced a three-part Final Chapter series, running in October, November and December, and certainly haven't skimped on the bookings. The third and final part of the series is set to welcome Japanese techno maestro DJ Nobu through the doors of The Island to play alongside Timedance signee Batu. Given the good times that the Bristol label has given us over the last three years, you can be absolutely certain that they'll be signing off in style with this one.

Soul Shake presents Alexander Nut @ The Crofters Rights, Tuesday 15th November

Soul Shake will be welcoming Alexander Nut to Crofters Rights for a Tuesday night party this month.

Alexander Nut has played a huge part in some of the UK dane music scene's most revered institutions, including Rinse FM and NTS Radio, carving out a reputation as one of the country's finest musical curators on the decks and beyond. His remarkable ability to span genres and weave varying styles in and out of his sets - on radio and during DJ sets - has earned him widespread acclaim from artists and punters alike.

Emergency Room presents Chaos in the CBD @ Thekla, Friday 16th November

I, personally, have been eagerly anticipating a Chaos in the CBD appearance on a Bristol stage throughout my whole three-and-a-half year stint in the city, and so you can imagine how excited I was upon hearing the news that the pair are set to play Thekla this month. Having moved from Auckland to London a few years back, the brothers have released a slew of critically acclaimed records through Rhythm Section, Hot Haus Records and, most recently, Idwt Recordings, with their recent 'Multiverse' EP making waves throughout the UK and beyond.

In:Motion//Love International @ Motion, Friday 23rd November

Todd Terje and Moodymann head up an all-star cast for Love International's In:Motion party in November.

Boasting two of the biggest bookings of the series in Todd Terje and the elusive Moodymann, Love International's In:Motion party is set to be a highlight of the 2018 series and will certainly be one of the best events of the club's 2018 Autumn/Winter season. Terje and Detroit's own Moodymann, as well as Joy Orbison, veteran DJ Craig Richards, man-of-the-moment Nicolas Lutz, Rinse FM Josey Rebelle, Team Love head honcho Dave Harvey and more, will be providing the soundtrack all night, spread across Motion, The Marble Factory and The Tunnel. If this year's Love International Festival was anything to go by then this one is set to be an absolute belter.

Housework @ The Arnolfini, Saturday 24th November

Housework's last party of 2018 will see them take over the Arnolfini auditorium once again to welcome De School resident upsammy to the city's Harbourside. Alongside Housework residents Shanti Celeste, Gramrcy, Golesworthy (Banoffee Pies) and Daisy Moon, she'll be taking a Bristol crowd on a mind-bending river ride through various styles and genres, accompanied by the visual art of Avva Studios. It's not often that labels boast lists of resident DJs as strong as Housework's, so you can bet that we'll be joining them at the Arnolfini this month.

In:Motion Mr Scruff All Night Long @ Motion, Friday 30th November

A real music person's booking: Mr Scruff will play an All-Night set at Motion at the end of the month.

What is there to be said about Mr Scruff that hasn't been said already? Often referred to as "the DJ's DJ", his selections are as varied as any and his incredibly vast musical knowledge is the stuff of legend among dance music aficionados. Able to jump through a huge variety of genres, from funk and soul to house through to drum n bass and jungle, Mr Scruff's ability to command a dance floor is second to none, and any chance to catch him in action should be jumped at. He's one of the best in the business, and an all-night set in The Marble Factory is certainly one of the most exciting Bristol club events of 2018.
