Omar Souleyman on stage in 2015.

Having started out as a wedding singer in his native Syria, Omar Souleyman is thought to have around 700 recorded albums to his name, having given out CDs to the couples whose weddings he would play at. From there, he's gone on to become a hugely sought-after act around the world, and is now a popular booking at festivals and parties across Europe and beyond.

Souleyman's combination of traditional Syrian vocals and modern electronic beats have won him fans in a number of musical circles, drawing huge crowds at some high-profile festivals like Glastonbury and Roskilde. The last time he appeared in Bristol was at last year's Simple Things, closing the festival with a performance in the lobby of Colston Hall.

Collaborations with Four Tet, Gilles Peterson and Modeselektor, with the latter once describing him as "the coolest man on the planet", have earned Souleyman a cult following among the electronic music scene, and his sound has grown to accommodate a growing element of electronica through synthesiser and right-hand-man, Rizan Sa'id.

Tickets for Omar Souleyman live at The Marble Factory on Thursday 31st January 2019 are on sale at 10am on Wednesday 10th October and can be found here.
