Omar Souleyman set to bring his one-of-a-kind sound to The Marble Factory in 2019

Commanding stages in his trademark headwear and black shades, Souleyman's appearance at the newly-renovated Marble Factory space on Thursday 31st January is not one to be missed. Having started out as a wedding singer in his native Syria, Omar Souleyman is thought to have around 700 recorded albums to his name, having given out CDs to the couples whose weddings he would play at. From there, he's gone on to become a hugely sought-after act around the world, and is now a popular booking at festivals and parties across Europe and beyond.
Souleyman's combination of traditional Syrian vocals and modern electronic beats have won him fans in a number of musical circles, drawing huge crowds at some high-profile festivals like Glastonbury and Roskilde. The last time he appeared in Bristol was at last year's Simple Things, closing the festival with a performance in the lobby of Colston Hall.
Collaborations with Four Tet, Gilles Peterson and Modeselektor, with the latter once describing him as "the coolest man on the planet", have earned Souleyman a cult following among the electronic music scene, and his sound has grown to accommodate a growing element of electronica through synthesiser and right-hand-man, Rizan Sa'id.
