Café Scientifique in French at Smoke & Mirrors on Tuesday 5th June 2018
Posted on: 04 Jun 2018The unlikely combo of astrophysics and French will merge for a fascinating evening which will explore the twinkling, dazzling magic of our skies for Café Scientifique at Smoke & Mirrors in Bristol on Tuesday 5th June 2018.
Kicking off at 7.30pm, this free event will be presented by astrophysicists Audrey and Joseph who will convey their enthusiasm and passion for astronomy, magnetic fields and tides, the Aurora borealis, super-sized black holes and exactly what happens when galaxies swallow each other. (Hope you got all that.)
Throwing a refreshing twist into this melange of interstellar magic (actually quite appropriate considering the gig takes place at Bristol's premiere illusion venue) will also be the opportunity to learn some French in a relaxed atmosphere, which will combine learning about the numinous miracles of the universe with some bi-lingual conversing.
Divided into two parts, Café Scientifique in French, part one (première partie, if we're going to do things properly here) will present a basic introduction to astrophysics, whilst the second part (deuxième partie - hey, I'm getting the knack of this) will plunge deeper into the realms of stars, galaxies, planets, galaxy clusters and how they interact with each other, with a particular emphasis on polar auroras, galaxy mergers, supermassive blackholes and tidal forces among other things.
Guaranteed to inject some 'ooh la la' into an evening of cosmic, celestial wonder, we can't promise an abundance of fine cheese, strings of garlic and baguettes, but this is sure to be an educational, enlightening evening. Seats will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
