Peter Knight's Gigspanner Big Band announce special one-off live show at Bristol Folk House

Posted on: 25 Jan 2018

Since his departure from folk-rock pioneers Steeleye Span in 2013, Peter Knight has focussed his attention on his acclaimed Gigspanner project, establishing the trio as a leading name in the folk/roots scene. Bristol Folk House has proudly announced that the Gigspanner Big Band will be playing the venue on Saturday 28th April 2018 in a special one-off performance.

As a trio, Gigspanner have built a major reputation for taking traditional music apart and reassembling it into smartly crafted reworks, described by The Guardian as being "subtle, bravely original ... a combination of virtuosity, intensity and charisma".

Peter Knight's Gigspanner Big Band will play at the Bristol Folk House on Saturday 28th April.

Their appearances on stage together as the Gigspanner Big Band are a rare but highly sought after occurrence, thanks to their instantly recognisable assembly of accomplished musicianship and arresting chemistry. Coupled with the intimate setting of the Bristol Folk House, this show is set to be one of the most memorable of 2018.

Special guests at the Bristol Folk House are Phillip Henry and Hannah Martin - a BBC Folk Award-winning duo whose acclaimed folk sound has been shaped in true troubadour fashion by their extensive travel, picking up songs, styles and stories along the way.

The band's self-written material is rooted in the rich folk history of the British Isles, and Peter Knight, Hannah Martin and Phillip Henry are known to produce highly atmospheric arrangements with the flick of a bow, fine choice of a chord or the slip of a beat.

Tickets for Peter Knight's Gigspanner Big Band at the Bristol Folk House on Saturday 28th April are on sale now and can be found here. For more information or to follow ticket updates, check out Gigspanner's Facebook page.
