Bristol residents called to partake in WWF’S EARTH HOUR on Saturday 24th March 2018

Posted on: 10 Jan 2018

People of Bristol! Join the rest of the world to take part in the huge movement to support action on climate change by switching your lights off at home for one hour. The global event will happen on Saturday 24th March 2018 from 8.30-9.30pm.

Earth Hour will see millions around the world come together to show they care about the future of our planet and climate change. Each year the support has grown more and more with a record 187 countries and nine million people in the UK taking part and joining the movement in 2017.

Now is a crucial time to take action and reconnect with the planet, our home. One third of us feel powerless about environmental issues. It might feel impossible that we can make a difference, but the opposite is true. We have the solutions, we just need to act on them.

We’re facing the biggest environmental challenge our generation has ever seen. And we are seeing change at a pace we’ve never seen before.
Nearly 1 in 6 species are at risk of extinction due to climate change. Their habitats, from our incredible oceans to our stunning forests, are being destroyed

Some wildlife will be in serious trouble because of climate change – their habitats may change more than they can live with. Snow leopards, puffins, rhinos, elephants and polar bears are just some of the animals we love that will be severely affected by the pressure we’re putting on our planet.

Over the past 150 years, we’ve changed the balance of our planet by living beyond our means. We’ve burnt huge amounts of fossil fuels (such as coal, oil, gas), bred huge amounts of methane- producing livestock and cut down vast swathes of forests, which would naturally absorb carbon dioxide from the air.

Light a candle, turn off your lights and get involved in Earth Hour. Come and be part of the world’s biggest movement for climate action.

More details of how you can get involved will be available from early 2018 at www.wwf.org.uk/earthhour
