A Visitors Experience of Bristol

A Visitors Experience of Bristol

Posted on: 23 Nov 2017

My experience in Bristol started on the 5th November when I flew to London from Germany to gain work experience. After a coach ride to Bristol our host families collected us at the Coach Station. They gave us a warm welcome and introduced us to the surroundings of the house and the buses. As we arrived as a group of 18 students we lived together with four girls in a host family.

Suspension Bridge

Our first day began with a little introduction. The weather was great on this day and we went to see the Clifton Suspension Bridge in the afternoon. The right decision, as we had an amazing view on the bridge and of the landscape around it. On our way back into the town centre we walked through Clifton and admired all of the wonderful Edwardian architecture.

Harbourside

On Tuesday my internship started but there was still enough time to discover the city at lunch or in the evenings. The St. Nicholas food market is an amazing place for lunch where it is so hard to decide what to eat because everything looks great. It was the different cakes that I loved the most.  I also enjoyed going for a walk through the city, looking around to see what I could find.  My favourite place to go was the Harbourside with its beautiful view and colourful houses.  As the Christmas season began, we of course visited the German Christmas Market to have a Bratwurst. Afterwards, we went Ice skating at the Millennium square in the evening which was great fun.  We also went to the cinema and visited The Hippodrome to see Romeo and Juliet the ballet.

I did my internship at 365 Bristol, which was a great experience. It combined writing articles with internet research, so my tasks were always diverse. One day we went out to The Arcade to take some photos and try food which was very cool because I also got to know a new pretty place in the city. My time at 365 was a great improvement to my language skills and I could find out about many things going on around Bristol.

At the weekends we did daytrips; one to Bath to visit the Roman Baths and the Fashion museum, as well as to look around the little shops, which make it such a historical and  beautiful city. The second weekend we visited Cardiff with perfect sunshine. We went on a boat trip on a little boat at the Bay. In the afternoon we walked around the city and discovered the Cardiff Castle.

All in all I had great three weeks in Bristol, it is a great place with many young people and many things to see and do. I enjoyed doing my internship as well as discovering the city in my leisure time.
