At-Bristol ushers in a new age of curiosity as We The Curious

Posted on: 19 Sep 2017

Bristol's leading science centre, formerly At-Bristol, has been rebranded as We The Curious having officially reopened on Thursday 14th September. Numerous spaces and exhibits at the centre will be updated over the next two years, but changes are already underway with new logo, colour schemes, signage and photography style having already been unveiled.

As well as updating brand imagery, the people behind the We The Curious revamp have opened out the foyer, cafe and gift shop areas to create a much more welcoming public space for visitors to explore. Not only this, but the whole ground floor is due to be rearranged over the next two years to make room for exciting new interactive exhibits, including a huge new project designed from 10,000 curious questions asked by the people of Bristol.

Sharp-eyed members of the public might already have seen the We The Curious 'Curious Cube' around the city - a temporary installation that reflects on the questions already asked and celebrates the curiosity of the people of Bristol. The Cube has already popped up in Clevedon Beach, Cumberland Basin and the Clifton Downs, with further stops scheduled during its' route around the area.

The Curious Cube has been popping up around the city in recent weeks

The aim of the Curious Cube and the team's efforts to gain questions from the public is to compile 10,000 Curious Questions by the time they open the new exhibition in 2019. The ambition has been kickstarted by this summer's 'Festival of 'What If?'', where hundreds of visitors left their questions - from "How do stars stay up in space?" to "Who invented Maths?"

Anna Starkey, Creative Director for We The Curious, says her team's mission is to "empower everyone to ask questions and to open up the way science works, to enjoy it culturally as well as educationally". She hopes that the much-anticipated exhibition will "connect science, culture, citizens and research in a unique collaboration with the city, providing everyone with the chance to ask questions about the world around them".

As for the upcoming schedule at We The Curious, the usual offering of astounding science and technology is available to visitors, with regular events taking place in the breathtaking Planetarium facility throughout the rest of 2017 and a variety of great-value family activities on offer. A What's On guide and online ticket office are available here.

If you're curious and would like to know more, are interested in using any We The Curious facilities for public research or have a Curious Question you'd like to submit, you can pop into the building for a chat, get in touch on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram with the hashtag #WeTheCurious or email curious@wethecurious.org.

We The Curious (formerly At-Bristol) is located at Anchor Rd, Harbourside, Bristol BS1 5DB.
