Bristol's Prince Street Bridge to open to traffic
Posted on: 06 Jul 2017The bridge, connecting Spike Island to central Bristol, had been closed for repairs since August 2015 – but will allow cars to cross next week, having reopened to pedestrians and push-bikes in May.
The closure of Prince Street Bridge has been a source of sore feeling for many Bristolians since it first refused entry to thoroughfare nearly two years ago. The project was initially forecast for completion in under six months, but works have been delayed in a length of time that has hit local businesses hard.
The scaffold bridge, erected in its place, has diverted footfall away from local cafés and eateries, whilst also representing a massive eyesore and an inconvenience to commuters.
Therefore the news that Price Street Bridge will reopen to cars next week will come as a relief to all. Bristol City Council has confirmed that the necessary tests have been conducted on the bridge and scaffolding sufficiently removed, thus allowing the positive decision to be taken. This should ease pressure on the schemes underway on Prince Street and Temple Way.
