My Bristol Food - Sarah Starling

As any Bristol resident or visitor will know, there is no shortage of superb places to eat. From Michelin-starred dining to street food and everything else in between, there's a cuisine and a budget to suit everyone.

In this series of interviews, 365Bristol meet with people who love their food first and foremost. We're meeting real people who like real food. You can't judge fine dining against a burrito but there's no reason why you can't enjoy and comment on both; enlightening the city of Bristol as to which places we should visit.

My Bristol Food - Sarah Starling

This week we sat down with Sarah Starling, Bristol foodie extraordinaire. You can always find her out and about, trying out all the newest venues and returning to some old favourites. Regularly contributing food reviews to 365Bristol, she's also an avid supporter of independent shops, markets and cafes.

Who are you? Are you from Bristol or if not why have you moved here?

I’m Sarah Starling. I was born in Wolverhampton and I’ve been here since about 2009. I moved here from Oxford for a change of scenery.

Where is the best place to go and have some food in Bristol?

I’m going to pick an area and say Wapping Wharf; I love everywhere I’ve tried and Woky Ko has become a regular haunt.

You’ve got 24 hours in Bristol to show some visitors around. What are you going to do?

I’d start with brunch at North Street Standard then walk into town via the M Shed and Arnolfini to have a look at whatever exhibitions are on at the moment. Then we’d eat and shop our way around St Nicks and the Harbourside markets, and then maybe round Brandon Hill. If there was time, I’d fit in a visit to the SS Great Britain. For dinner, it’d be a tossup between The Ox, Pizza Workshop, somewhere in Wapping Wharf (below), and whichever new place had opened that week!

If you were the Mayor of Bristol for a day what would you change or implement?

I’d make the busses work properly. I may need a magic wand rather than a political office though…

Best Burger – The Burger Joint

Best Sunday Roast – The Bank Tavern

Best Steak – The Ox

Best Indian – I love Indian food but I must admit that I’m no expert on Indian restaurants! I can’t wait to visit Nutmeg in Clifton though; it looks amazing.

Best Italian – Swoon (it’s absolutely Italian!)

Best Pub – Bag o’ Nails
