Families will get the exciting chance to marvel in the magic of the movies when Watershed in Bristol holds its Family Workshop: Hands on Film session on Saturday 30 July 2016.

This free event is a hands-on, drop-in workshop that will immediately follow a 3D screening of Wizard of Oz at 11.10am, and you can join in any time between 1.30pm and 3.30pm. The workshop will be a fun, immersive way of understanding the nature of cinema and the movie image, allowing you to interact with models and early cinematic artifacts to create your own images.

Expert puppeteer and magic maker Emma Powell will also be at the session, showing off a stunning range of illusions and magic tricks to demonstrate how moving images were the catalyst for film as we know it today.

Kids will also be able to try their hand at drawing (plenty of pencils and paper will be available), as well as having a go at actual movie making through creating their own model zoetropes and praxinoscopes.

A magical few hours to follow up the screening of a perennially magical movie, this interactive workshop will let kids explore their own imaginations to create their own pictures. The session is ideal for kids aged between 6 and 12, but children of all ages are welcome depending on capacity.
