DJ Derek Tribute Night at Pranj's Bar in Bristol

Posted on: 14 Apr 2016

On Friday 22nd April 2016, join DJ Derek’s family and friends at Pranj’s Bar on Corn Street as they pay tribute to a true Bristol legend. A great line-up of DJs has already been confirmed, with more likely to be announced in the run-up to the event.

Born in 1941, Derek Serpell-Morris was one of the most influential figures in the Bristol and UK music scene. He pioneered the playing of reggae, ska, dancehall and soul. Bristol owes a lot to DJ Derek and the love for him was evident when, upon his disappearance, the whole of Bristol came together to spread the word and help find the city’s lost friend. Of course, unfortunately the search was in vain and he sadly passed away. However, his legend will live on in the people he influenced and this night will be a showcase of just that. No better tribute could be paid to the man that made us dance than a DJ playing some tracks and the public dancing, having a good time once more.

DJ Bunjy of Laid Blak and Queen Bee will be playing sets at this open wake, which kicks off at 4pm and will run long into the night. This bar really has it all and should be on your list of venues for any night out in the centre of Bristol. With two bars featuring all the main beers, wines and over 120 spirits, a dedicated cocktail bar, the best tunes in Bristol and a friendly relaxed environment
