The Spirit of Bristol, founded by distiller Pete Lumber, has announced its first-ever seasonal release: Sloe Berry Gin - a bold, spice-led winter liqueur steeped for over six months with hand-foraged sloe berries, distilled tonka beans and cassia bark.
Crafted in small batches using the brand’s signature Hotwells Gin as its base, the result is a rich, complex expression of sloe gin at 32% ABV - higher than most on the market. Smooth, warming and slightly spiced, it draws its natural sweetness from berries harvested across the Norfolk and Suffolk plains.
Steeped slowly, this deeper take on the British classic is designed for festive cocktails, winter serves or gifting. It’s equally at home in a sparkling spritz, served warm with orange peel, or enjoyed neat by the fire.
This latest addition to the Spirit of Bristol family follows a standout year for the brand, whose gins are now served in over 80 venues across the South West, stocked in leading bottle shops and poured nationally in Flight Club and Electric Shuffle venues. The brand’s Clifton Royale and Harbourside gins were each awarded Gold at the 2025 World Gin Awards, cementing its place as one of the UK’s most distinctive new distilleries. It’s also now gifted by Savills Bristol to every homebuyer, a curated taste of the city’s independent spirit.
“There’s something really satisfying about making sloe gin the traditional way - no shortcuts. It’s about patience, balance and getting the best out of the fruit,” says Founder and Head Distiller Pete Lumber. “We wanted to make something that feels proper for winter: warming, rich and full of depth. Using our Hotwells gin as the base gave us a lovely spice profile to work with. It’s a small batch, but a really special one.”
Rooted in centuries-old British tradition, sloe gin was once a way to tame the wild hedgerow berry, but The Spirit of Bristol reimagines it using a delicate, citrus-light base gin that lets the natural richness of the sloe berries shine, gently lifted by warm spice and subtle sweetness. Each small batch is non-chill filtered, lightly sweetened and made with care to preserve the purity of the fruit.
The Spirit of Bristol Sloe Berry Gin is available to pre-order now via spiritofbristol.com ahead of its limited winter release for £42.
