ABOUT MARY WALLOPERS

The Mary Wallopers are a dynamic Irish folk band originating from Dundalk, County Louth. The group was initially formed by brothers Charles and Andrew Hendy, alongside their friend Seán McKenna. They are renowned for their energetic performances and contemporary interpretations of traditional Irish folk songs, drawing inspiration from iconic acts like The Dubliners and The Pogues. They are named after a boat that is named after a cider drinking sex worker who used to work around the docks!

Over the years, the band's lineup has evolved. In 2022, they expanded to include Róisín Barrett on bass, Brendan McInerney on drums, Seamus Hyland on accordion, and Finnian O'Connor on tin whistle and uilleann pipes. Subsequent changes saw Ken Mooney replacing McInerney, and Hyland departing to pursue solo endeavors. Most recently, in March 2025, founding member Seán McKenna announced his departure after nearly a decade with the band - more info here.

The Mary Wallopers have released two albums to date. Their self-titled debut album, released in October 2022, was lauded for its raucous and captivating renditions of traditional songs. Their sophomore album, "Irish Rock N Roll," released in October 2023, showcased their ability to infuse humor and vibrancy into their music, further solidifying their reputation in the folk scene.

Beyond their studio work, the band has made significant contributions to various causes. Notably, in November 2023, they performed alongside artists like Damien Dempsey and Lankum at the "Gig for Gaza" in Dublin's 3Arena, raising funds for medical equipment for Palestinians in Gaza.

In addition to The Mary Wallopers, the Hendy brothers also perform as TPM, a comedy rap duo known for their explicit political commentary and anti-capitalist themes. TPM gained prominence in 2015 with their viral debut song, "All the Boys on the Dole."

The Mary Wallopers continue to engage audiences with their unique blend of traditional folk and contemporary flair, ensuring that Irish folk music resonates with both longstanding fans and new listeners alike.
