Comedy, art and the luck of the Irish: Step into Spring with Artspace Lifespace
Posted on: 28 Feb 2025March in Bristol brings an array of eclectic events to celebrate the arrival of Spring at Bristol's Artspace Lifespace venues.
Artspace Lifespace, the arts organisation supporting creative residencies across Bristol, has curated a vibrant month of events to bid farewell to winter. From a RIOT ACT comedy show honouring International Women’s Day to an Irish takeover at Ashton Court ahead of St Patrick’s Day, the programme invites the Bristol community to unite and welcome in Spring through a blend of art, laughter and shared experiences.
RIOT ACT was born to celebrate joy, togetherness and the spirit of DIY creative brilliance. With March Women’s History Month, the show’s creators felt it was the perfect moment to bring together an extraordinary lineup of creative powerhouses for a night of celebration on Monday 3rd March.
The stellar lineup includes stand-up sensation Jessica Fostekew, Bristolian poetry hero Muneera Pilgrim, comedy sensation Mel Owen - dubbed “Wales’ most exciting act” - and local poet Deasy Bamford. Hosted by RIOT ACT Queens, Jacqueline Jamal and Lydia Daisy, this promises to be an electrifying night at The Island Venue.Tickets to this event are £10 with a pay what you can option, and can be booked via Headfirst.
On Friday 14th March, Ashton Court Mansion will come alive for a pre-St Patrick’s Day evening of music and dance. The festivities begin at 6pm with an energetic Celi, along with Irish dance demonstrations and lessons for those keen to get involved. From 8pm, Poor Old Dogs will bring their original take on traditional folk, followed by toe-tapping tunes from DJ Patrick, who will keep the party going until 2am. Tickets are priced at £10 adults and £5 for kids, or family tickets are also available. Tickets can be bought now through Headfirst.
On Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th March, the Bristol Medical Art Show will be on display at Sparks Bristol. This independent art exhibition offers a unique perspective into the personal and professional lives of healthcare workers, all curated and run by medical students.
Featuring multimedia artwork by medical students, doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals, the Show provides a glimpse into their creative expressions. The opening reception will take place on Friday 7th March, from 3pm - 6pm, with free food and drink. For full event details, visit the Artspace Lifespace and Sparks Bristol websites.
