Boiler Room SYSTEM at Bristol’s Prospect Building: A Storm-Proof Party

While Storm Darragh was busy wreaking havoc across the country, Bristol was busy partying like nothing could touch it. On December 7th, Boiler Room SYSTEM rolled into town, taking over the recently polished Prospect Building for nine hours of bass-heavy bangers presented by Havana Club.

Some may remember Prospect Building in its former life as Prop Yard. Since reopening earlier this year under AMMAD (the crew behind London’s Junction 2 festival), the venue has undergone a £500,000 glow-up, and it shows. State-of-the-art lights, visuals that hit you square in the retinas, and a well-designed sound system—it’s clear AMMAD didn’t skimp.

The space, can hold a whopping 4,800 people, but thanks to Storm Darragh playing doorman, the venue felt lively but not overcrowded. No one likes being crammed in like sardines, and Saturday struck the perfect balance of bodies and breathing room. Shout out to the weather for the unexpected crowd control.

The line up was a fitting nod to Bristol’s rich bass culture. From garage to dubstep and everything in between, the night was a showcase of sound system energy.

I managed to catch the second half of proceedings, starting with a genre-bending mix of electronic bass from London based DJ and producer Mia Koden.

Next on the decks was Bullet Tooth, who staying true to his “who is this guy?” mystique wore his signature balaclava and went full UK garage with a dubplate-heavy set of underground gems.

One of the highlights of the day was Oppidan. As a Bristol native, she embraced the homecoming spotlight with finesse. As one of Bristol fastest rising stars in UK garage, Oppidan held a high energy masterclass that had the crowd eating out of her hand.

Hamdi took the closing slot and absolutely ran with it. Known for his seamless blending of genres, Hamdi delivered a multi-layered set with his signature dubstep sound that left no doubt about why he’s one of the scene’s most in-demand producers.

The crowd was a dynamic mix, with many diehards making their presence felt dressed in Boiler Room merch – a testament to the brand’s cultural significance and loyal following. For a lot of the younger crowd, this wasn’t just a night out; it was the real-life payoff to years of streaming Boiler Room sets on YouTube.

Sure it made this thirty-something feel ancient, but there’s something refreshing about seeing a crowd this young and this into it. Club culture’s been on shaky ground lately, and events like this are hopefully a sign that the next generation isn’t letting it go without a fight.

In conclusion, the event was a perfect storm - a defiant, bass-heavy celebration of everything that makes Bristol’s club scene great.
