The Leeds musician has swapped his spot behind the Kaiser Chiefs drum-kit for the more prominent role as lead singer and The Thekla will be the first of six venues to play host to his new band as they headline for the first time.
In an eagerly anticipated gig, Hodgson and his Everyone Says Hi bandmates will share tracks from their forthcoming debut, self-titled album, which will be released on 31st January 2025, via Chrysalis Records.
Hodgson unveiled Everyone Says Hi – a name lifted from a David Bowie song of the same title - earlier in the spring with debut single, Brain Freeze. It was quickly followed by a first live performance at Brighton’s Great Escape and a pair of sell-out headline dates in Hodgson’s hometown of Leeds and London.
Since quitting the Kaiser Chiefs, Hodgson has long been a songwriter in high demand. Since leaving his teenage band back in 2012, he has co-written for Dua Lipa, You Me At Six, Duran Duran, George Ezra, and Holly Humberstone, and collaborated on tracks alongside Mark Ronson, Kygo, and Shirley Bassey.
The Thelka show will give the audience a chance to find out what Oasis star Liam Gallagher is missing in the shape of their newly-release single On The Same Side
Supporting will be Johnny Lloyd who burst onto the scene in 2010 as frontman of indie-rock outfit Tribes. Johnny has gone on to establish himself as a prolific solo artist and esteemed film composer. Alongside his solo studio output (‘Next Episode Starts in 15 Seconds’, ‘Cheap Medication’, plus a pair of rarities collections entitled ‘Low Fidelity’ Volumes 1 & 2 ), Johnny has also contributed music for numerous TV & Film productions including ‘Frank of Ireland’, ‘Sex Education’, ‘Legacy of Lies’, ‘After Life’, plus the Sky Atlantic series ‘I Hate Suzie’ which he went on to win a Royal Television Award for ‘Best Original Music’ for in 2023. In 2021, he released the official motion picture soundtrack for Billie Piper’s critically acclaimed ‘Rare Beasts’ film, while also finding time to release his third official solo album: ‘La La La’. Since then, Lloyd reactivated Tribes for a series of huge UK shows, including an appearance at the Kentish Town O2 Forum, plus comeback album ‘Rabbit Head’.
Tickets for the gig are still available here.
