Bristol Rovers revamp and re-home thousands of pre-loved football boots
Posted on: 26 Sep 2024After Rovers fans donated used boots to the Re-Kicks initiative in the summer, cleaning brand Cif has begun re-distributing, offering revamped pairs to young Bristolians.
Teaming up with Chelsea and England’s Cole Palmer, Cif is helping blossoming young players feel pitch-ready this season. The Re-Kicks project is now in full swing, and, alongside Bristol Rovers Community Foundation, they are working to re-home hundreds of second-hand boots to those Bristol children who need it most.

It's so important that kids have the right boots and equipment, so the few confident and pitch-ready! That's why I've teamed up Cif for the new Re-kicks Initiative. pic.twitter.com/YXdBTKo84C
After a successful collection period earlier this year saw more than 750 pairs of boots donated by young footballers across the nation, the newly restored kicks are now being re-distributed to youngsters at Bristol Rovers Community Foundation.
Cif’s mission is to inspire on-pitch confidence in young people by kitting them out. Research has found that 84% of UK sports charity Sported’s grassroots groups find young people less likely to participate in sports because they don’t have the right kit.
The ever-rising price of sportswear can create an obstacle for youngsters to reach their potential, especially as children are always outgrowing clothes and shoes. A staggering 98% of groups revealed that the cost of specialised footwear is a cost-of-living challenge for families
The Re-Kick initiative is fronted by Premier League and England star Cole Palmer, who grew up in one of Manchester’s most deprived areas. Palmer wants to alleviate some of the challenges young people face and help them fall in love with the beautiful game. The midfielder has said:
“Growing up I saw how the cost to play football was a big problem for families and in some cases, not a reality. That’s why the Re-Kicks initiative is so important to me. By helping to keep young people involved in the sport, I hope to inspire them to keep chasing their dreams on and off the pitch.”
