Dublin post-punks The Murder Capital announce SWX show

Posted on: 24 Sep 2024

Having yesterday released their first single of 2024, the buzzy five-piece have announced a massive UK tour for 2025.

The Murder Capital will play Bristol’s SWX on Saturday 26 April 2025.

New single, ‘Can’t Pretend To Know’ is the perfect return, built on a razor-sharp riff and anthem in-waiting, summing up what makes the band so distinctive and captivating. The track was recorded in LA earlier this year with John Congelton (St Vincent, Angel Olsen, Sharon Van Etten) in an intense, energy-paced session – waving in a new era for the band.

Dublin-based post-punk outfit The Murder Capital explore the dark corners of society, exploring the darker side of society utilising rumbling dread and the cathartic elements of the genre as their tools.

All hailing from various locales across Ireland, the five met while studying at BIMM Music College in Dublin. The band is made up of James McGovern and Damien Tuit (guitar), Diarmuid Brennan (drums), Cathal Roper (guitar), and Gabriel Paschal Blake (bass).

They released their debut single, ‘More or Less’ in 2018 with the video blowing up online. Riding the hype, they quickly started work on a debut LP with Mark Ellis (Flood), releasing When I Have Fears in 2019 – an album centring around the loss of a friend to suicide.

The band sat down to write a follow-up, but the results were deemed too depressing. After six months, they had birthed musically muscular and emotionally diverse Gigi’s Recovery which came out in 2022 to widespread acclaim.

As well as Bristol, The Murder Capital’s 2025 UK tour will see them play venues in Birmingham, Manchester, Glasgow, Leeds (two shows) and London.
