Vintage Screenings: Enjoy classic films paired with delicious wine!

The next batch of Bristol Film Festival’s ‘Vintage Screenings’ will run at Avery’s Wine Cellars throughout September and October 2024.
After a sparkling wine reception, an all-time great film will be accompanied by a tasting of four carefully chosen wines courtesy of Avery’s resident experts, guiding your taste buds through them at stages during the film. This is a year-round series, but in this article, we’ll be looking at the September and October screenings.

Kicking off the next round of films on Saturday 21 September will be a 50th Anniversary Screening of Francis Ford Coppola’s masterful sequel The Godfather Part II – of course, paired with six Sicilian wines. This will be followed by Kind Hearts & Coronets, voted by the BFI as the 6th best British film, the Ealing comedy will be screened on Thursday 26.
The penultimate screening of the month will be the hilarious standalone Pink Panther sequel, A Shot In The Dark on Friday 27 – paired with some delicious French wines. Saturday 26 will see another showing of The Godfather Part II, including a Godfather-inspired buffet, courtesy of Toff’s Pasta.
The first screening of October will be an 80th-anniversary screening of Gaslight, featuring a fine Oscar-winning turn from Ingrid Bergman, on Wednesday 18. This will be followed on Thursday 19 by Alfred Hitchcock’s legendary psychological thriller Rear Window – celebrating its 70th anniversary with a Hitchockian wine list.
Halloween will be celebrated with a trio of spooky screenings: Taika Waititi’s cult hit vampire mockumentary What We Do In The Shadows on Thursday 24, the deliciously dark Interview With A Vampire starring Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise and a young Kirsten Dunst on Friday 25, and spoof horror Young Frankenstein on Saturday 26.
