Bristolians can look forward to everything from jazz and blues to acoustic and funk taking over some of the city’s favourite venues next weekend.

Old City Sounds will take over Bristol’s historic Old City on Saturday 24 August 2024.

Following the massive success of its inaugural event last year, the free-to-attend celebration of Bristol’s songful soul is back for another unforgettable day of music, entertainment, and fun. The event will take over venues such as The Old Duke’s, who will be hosting their famous Jazz Festival, Welsh Back’s 6 O’clock Gin Boat and more.

The Old Duke will be swinging with the smooth tones of jazz, with the pub’s landlord, Stewart Seydel saying: The Old Duke Jazz Festival has been running since the early 80's, started by the then landlord John Stone on the back of a beer delivery lorry.

“It has always (except when interrupted by the pandemic) been held on the August Bank Holiday weekend and involves three days of live music featuring the bands who appear at The Old Duke all year round. I'm lucky enough to witness the joy that live music can bring to people, both the players and listeners, every single day.

Elsewhere, there will be a range of eclectic sounds across the Old City with 6 O’clock Gin at the Glassboat hosting an array of DJs and Corn Street, St Stephens Street and Avenue Street hosting a street party with DJs and frozen margaritas. Local staples such as The Mother’s Ruin, Seamus O’Donnells and Mr Wolf will also be getting involved.

Away from the music, St Stephen’s Church will be the place to be for families, offering an array of workshops, crafts, and performances for both the young and the young at heart. From circus skills workshops, bhangra dancing, African drumming classes and many more activities.
