Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island is the quintessential pirate adventure story. When a mysterious sailor dies in sinister circumstances at the Admiral Benbow Inn, young Jim Hawkins stumbles across a treasure map in the dead man’s possessions.

However, it soon becomes clear that Jim isn’t the only one who knows of the map’s existence as, along with his friends Squire Trelawney and Dr Livesey, he sets sail on the Hispaniola to find the treasure. Expect a fast-moving tale of pirates, treachery and heroism, alongside a colourful palate of characters.

Given its rich history of pirating (Blackbeard AKA Edward Teach was famously born here), Bristol is key to Stevenson’s 1883 novel, with characters including the infamous Long John Silver said to be based on people the author met in the city.

It is where Squire Trelawney came across the good ship Hispaniola, where the man Long John Silver was based on ran a pub (that inspired The Spyglass Tavern!), and where young Jim Hawkin stepped off the coach from Devon to set sail on this epic adventure.

Perfect for long-time fans of the epic story, families and new audiences alike, this Bristol Old Vic Theatre School will reimagine the epic swashbuckling tale for the whole family, just in time for Christmas. The age recommendation for this show is 6+ (under 18s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
