Watershed have a busy summer programme planned for the whole family
Posted on: 24 Jul 2024The acclaimed Bristol cinema and cultural hub have planned a summer of fun throughout August, for young and old, come rain or shine, night, and day.
‘Summer at Watershed’ runs at Watershed from Friday 2 August until Sunday 1 September 2024.
Expect special offers, competitions, cocktails and plenty more with a ‘Summer Launch Party’ in the Café & Bar, a ‘Dirty Dancing Summer Jam’ and a weekly ‘Aperol Time’ for the adults and a ‘Castaway-themed Family Programme’ and much more for the whole family.
Visit the Watershed website for more information.

The opening day of Watershed’s special summer sees Hayao Miyazaki’s tender, gorgeous masterpiece My Neighbour Totoro shown twice (screenings are scheduled each day up until Thursday 8) as well as the launch party, with ‘Aperol Time’ from 5 PM, followed by live music and dancing.
Also running throughout August is family adventure film Jumanji starring Robin Williams and Kirsten Dunst. Other family classics include an appearance from the lovable, easily frightened Great Dane that is Scooby Doo and star-studded, animal-heavy animation Madagascar, complete with mischievous penguins and legions of lemurs!
Other films included in the summer programme are the 2023 adaption of Michael Morpurgo’s Kensuke’s Kingdom, magical animated feature Song of the Sea, Studio Ghibli’s first non-Japanese film, The Red Turtle and Watershed Minis, a free space for small ones (aged 0-8) with dimmed lights, beanbags and CBeebies favourites.
Elsewhere, there is a special ‘Dirty Dancing Summer Jam’ on Friday 23 with camping-themed games, summer camp-inspired cabaret and friendship bracelet-making – as well as, of course, a screening of Dirty Dancing! Presented by Party Girl Productions.
Finally, the ‘Cast Away Family Workshop’ is a special creative family activity for 7 – 14-year-old explorers. Inspired by Kensuke’s Kingdom, channel your survival skills to navigate a desert island, just like in the film. With a lunchtime screening also taking place, bring your packed lunch survival kit to eat together before the film.
Grab your tickets to all these exciting screenings and events from the Watershed website.
