The Marriage of Figaro sees Figaro attempt to outwit his witless employer, the Count Almaviva, to secure a hitch-free wedding night for his bride Susanna. What should be a simple day’s work for the roguish hero is thwarted by the unexpected intentions of Marcellina who wishes to marry him herself.
Assisted in his difficult task by the selfless sacrifices of the neglected Countess, who wishes for retribution and a reunion with the wayward Count and compromised by the over-exuberant adolescent Cherubino, Figaro strives and struggles to achieve his goal.
Opera Project’s cast features Philip Smith as Count Almaviva, Galina Averina as Countess Almaviva, Siân Roberts as Barbarina, Jonathan Cooke as Don Basilio/Don Curzio, Anna-Luise Wagner as Cherubino, Felicity Buckland as Marcellina, Ian Beadle as Doctor Bartolo/Antonio, Lorena Paz Nieto as Susanna and Malachy Frame as Figaro.
Founded in 1993, Opera Project is one of the UK’s leading opera production companies, whose work includes performances and residencies across a range of theatres and at various major opera and music festivals, including contributing to the establishment of If Opera and West Green House Opera.
