Rehearsals begin for War Horse’s upcoming tour – hitting Bristol in June 2025!

The wildly acclaimed National Theatre production is back on tour in an all-new tour of the UK and Ireland, dropping by The Bristol Hippodrome next year.

 

War Horse runs at The Bristol Hippodrome from Tuesday 3 until Saturday 21 June 2025.

 

With full casting details released earlier this month and rehearsals now underway, Bristolian theatre fans should prepare for an unforgettable theatrical experience that will take audiences all over the country on an extraordinary journey from rural Devon to the terrifying trenches of First World War France.

Based on the much-loved novel by Michael Morpurgo, this is a powerful, moving, and imaginative drama filled with music, songs and phenomenal inventiveness. At the show’s heart are the magnificent galloping, charging life-sized horses, brought to life by South Africa’s Handspring Puppet Company.

 

At the outbreak of The Great War, young Albert’s dear horse Joey is sold to the cavalry and transported to France. He’s soon caught up in the horror and fate takes him on a miraculous journey, serving on both sides before being stranded in No Man’s Land.

 

In the meantime, Albert, who remained adrift on his parents’ Devon farm, cannot forget his beloved Joey. Though still under the enlistment age, he embarks on a treacherous mission to find Joey and bring him home. War Horse was adapted by Nick Stafford and directed by Tom Morris - it premiered in 2007 and gained widespread acclaim.

 

As well as Bristol, War Horse’s upcoming tour will drop by theatres in Wimbledon, Salford, Southampton, Canterbury, Sunderland, Plymouth, Oxford, Woking, Dublin, Belfast, Stoke, Wolverhampton, Glasgow, Liverpool, Milton Keynes, Nottingham, Leeds, Edinburgh, Cardiff and Norwich.
