‘A divided country, leadership crumbling, corruption in the air. Welcome to England.’ Hal wasn’t born to be the king, but now it seems that he will be. His father longs for him to leave behind his friends in the taverns of Eastcheap, among them the infamous John Falstaff. War brews on the horizon, but will Hal ever come good?
Combining two of Shakespeare’s great history plays – Henry IV, parts i and ii – into the theatrical event of the year, Player Kings will reign over venues throughout the UK after it finishes its run at the Noël Coward Theatre. This dramatic piece will be brought to life by Robert Icke (Animal Farm, Oedipus, Children of Nora, The Doctor).
The principle cast of this new show features top acting talent such as Sir Ian McKellen (Lord Of The Rings, X Men) as Falstaff, Toheeb Jimoh (Ted Lasso) as Prince Harry, Richard Coyle (Fantastic Beasts) as King Henry IV, Clare Perkins (The Outlaws) as Mistress Quickly, Raphael Akuwudike (Doctors) as Prince John and more.
In addition to The Bristol Hippodrome and the Noël Coward Theatre, The Player Kings is set to appear at Birmingham Alexandra, Norwich Theatre Royal and Newcastle Theatre Royal. Find out more from the production’s website.
