Posted on: 26 Apr 2024

Opening yesterday and running throughout the weekend, this year’s festival marks the 10th anniversary and fifth edition of this eclectic programme of shows.

Bristol New Music Festival runs from Thursday 25 until Sunday 28 April 2024.

This diverse and intriguing festival takes place biennially across Bristol, welcoming both major international artists as well as homegrown talent, with clubs, churches and concert halls including Bristol Beacon, Strange Brew and St John on the Wall hosting events.

Individual as well as weekend tickets can be found on the Bristol New Music Festival website.

Today, Friday 26 April, will see a daytime set from piano virtuoso Marie Vermeulin accompanied by Neal Farwell on sound diffusion at Victoria Rooms, while tonight at The Lantern there will be shows from the enigmatic Klein alongside exciting support with audio-visual master Ryoji Ikeda taking over Beacon Hall to present ‘ultratronics’.

Saturday 27 will see a programme brimming with leftfield music events, highlights include Kathy Hinde’s ‘Earthquake Mass Reimagined’ at The Crypt of St John on the Wall, Apartment House/Matana Roberts/Maggie Nicols & Dan Johnson at St George’s Bristol and The Bug (In Dub) at Strange Brew.

Highlights from Sunday 28 include Shui Mo at Victoria Rooms, Qwak Club presents Raphael Roginski/Ailbhe Nic Oireachtaigh/Genghis Cohn at The Cube and Ahmed/Josephine Foster/Ruth Goller’s ‘Skylla’ at Strange Brew.

This is a mere drop in the ocean when it comes to everything Bristol New Music have on offer for their 10th-anniversary edition. The festival is a collaboration between four key Bristol organisations – Bristol Beacon, Spike Island, St George’s Bristol and the University of Bristol – and is integral to the city’s experimental music scene.

Bristol New Music Festival runs from Thursday 25 until Sunday 28 April 2024 with individual and weekend tickets available to purchase from the festival website.
