There’s a double bill of horror and doom metal coming to the IMAX

Posted on: 04 Apr 2024

This month, the old IMAX at the Bristol Aquarium will play host to horror-doc Frogman, and doom-metal band Froglord.

Once in a while, an event arises that makes you think: “who thought of this? How on earth did this come about?”, shortly followed by “I don’t care – this is excellent!”. One such event is coming to Bristol’s retrofitted IMAX screen in just a few short weeks.

The old IMAX at the Bristol Aquarium is a mighty cinematic venue that’s gone criminally underused for some time – but in recent years, thanks to the efforts of the team behind beloved cult video shop 20th Century Flicks and genre film festival Forbidden Worlds, it’s been lovingly restored into its former glory. With such a pedigree of genre and cult loving cinema fans behind it, it’s no wonder the venue has attracted screenings of films like the upcoming Frogman.

Frogman tells the terrifying story of Dallas Kyle – an amateur filmmaker struggling to turn his passion into a career, and prove that the footage he got of the Loveland Frogman was real. But what starts as an innocent documentary soon turns into a Lovecraftian nightmare as Dallas uncovers the horrific secrets hidden beneath Loveland's idyllic surface.

Winner of Film Quest’s ‘Best Found Footage Feature 2023’, the screening of Frogman is worth the ticket price alone – but there’s more to this event! The film will be paired by a thematically appropriate performance from doom metal band Froglord.

Emerging from deep within “The Mystic Swamp”, Froglord describe themselves as creating a unique blend of stoner groove and psychedelic doom. “With face melting fuzz and foot stomping grooves, Froglord’s reign of amphibious terror shall begin.”

The Frogman/Froglord double bill will take place on Sunday April 21, at the IMAX at the Bristol Aquarium. For tickets, and more information, head here.
