There's just over a week left to catch this children's classic

A musical production of Zog & the Flying Doctors, the bestselling sequel to the children’s classic Zog, opened at the Old Vic this week.

Zog, super keen student turned air-ambulance, still lands with a bang-crash-thump. Together with his Flying Doctor crew, Princess Pearl and Sir Gadabout, they tend to a sunburnt mermaid, a unicorn with one too many horns and a lion with the flu.

However, Pearl’s uncle, the King, has other ideas about whether princesses should be doctors, and she’s soon locked up in the castle back in a crown and a silly frilly dress! With a bit of help from some friends and half a pound of cheese, can Pearl make her uncle better and prove princesses can be doctors too?

Zog & the Flying Doctors is a silly, uplifting tale with some modern lessons to teach – based on Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s bestselling sequel to the also bestselling Zog, Freckle Productions (Zog, Stick Man, Tiddler & Other Terrific Tales) are back for another twist on the classic fairytale formula.

With music by Joe Stilgoe – son of Andrew Lloyd Webber collaborator Sir Richard Stilgoe, and star in his own right with appearances across radio, including with Alan Carr, Sir Michael Parkinson and The Horne Section. Stilgoe is also the mind behind the upbeat, infectious tunes at the heart of previous Freckle production Zog – so you’re guaranteed a musical marvel.

Zog & the Flying Doctors opened this week to audience delight – but only lasts until Sunday 14 April, and with the pedigree of a show like this, tickets aren’t likely to stay unsold.

Shows are 10:30 and 13:30 on weekdays, with an extra 15:30 show on weekends. If you’re interested in taking your little ones to a musical, magical show with a few moral lessons to teach, head to the Old Vic website to get your tickets.
