Meet the 70s inspired pop duo supporting Paul Weller in Bristol tomorrow

Posted on: 04 Apr 2024

Heading to Paul Weller’s sold-out Bristol Beacon gig tomorrow night? Want to find out more about the support act, Barbara? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered.

Paul Weller and opening act Barbara play Bristol Beacon’s Beacon Hall on Friday 5 April 2024.

Barbara are a pair of brothers from Brighton who blend 70s-inspired pop and satirical lyricism to debate the power play in the media today. After being handpicked by Neil Hannon to support The Divine Comedy, the duo played fourteen dates opening for Haircut One Hundred and are now touring with ‘The Modfather’ himself.

This show is SOLD OUT, you can join the waiting list on the Bristol Beacon website.

Following the widespread acclaim for their debut EP, Mildly Entertaining, and a string of high-profile support slots, Barbara are poised to deliver a new collection of tracks. On the ironically named EP Happy Days! the two-piece continues to craft classic pop bops with an intelligent and literary approach.

The lyrics of Happy Days! merrily challenge the societal and generational divides that covers our media every day. Melodically drawing from the likes of glam pop and Broadway, the band question the media’s perception of leadership, modernity vs tradition and the power of communicating your values.

With their quintessentially British lyrics that draw influence from such literary giants as Harold Pinter and George Orwell, Barbara are a truly characterful band and, live, are a real immersive experience – be sure to catch them supporting Paul Weller on his sell-out UK tour.

In addition to Bristol, Paul Weller’s April 2024 UK tour will see him play shows in Poole, Newport, Southend, Leicester, Sheffield, Stoke, Stockton, Dunfermline, Blackburn, York, Lincoln, Aylesbury and Cambridge – all dates are SOLD OUT.

Paul Weller and opening act Barbara play Bristol Beacon’s Beacon Hall on Friday 5 April 2024. This show is sold out but head to the event page to sign up for the waiting list.
