Star studded cast details announced for The Wizard of Oz’s Bristol runPosted on: 09 Feb 2024
JLS star Aston Merrygold is one of the newly announced names who will be off to see the wizard in April, playing the role of The Tin Man.
The Wizard of Oz runs at The Bristol Hippodrome from Tuesday 2 until Sunday 7 April 2024.
Merrygold will join the previously announced The Vivienne – who is playing The Wicked Witch Of The West – and a whole host of musical theatre talents in this beloved musical, coming directly from a summer season at the London Palladium. Don’t miss this wonderful production!
Based on L. Frank Baum’s classic story, The Wizard of Oz follows Dorothy, Toto and friends on their unforgettable adventure down the yellow brick road to the merry old land of Oz. With the iconic score of the Oscar-winning film, including ‘Over The Rainbow’, ‘Follow The Yellow Brick Road’ and ‘We’re Off To See the Wizard’, this will be a spectacular family show.
Aston Merrygold will be reprising his celebrated role as The Tin Man for select dates of The Wizard of Oz’s 2024 tour. Having recently delighted audiences and critics alike at Liverpool Empire, the JLS singer will rejoin the tour for the production’s Bristol leg.
Also announced as the principal cast is Aviva Tulley (Book of Mormon, UK tour) as Dorothy, Benjamin Yates (Emmerdale, ITV) as The Scarecrow, Nic Greenshields (Les Misérables, West End) as The Lion, Alex Bourne (Annie, West End) as The Wizard, Emily Bull (Matilda, UK Tour) as Glinda The Good and Abigail Matthews (War Horse, West End) as Toto.
Speaking about taking the role of The Tin Man, Merrygold – who rose to prominence as the singer of smash hit boy band JLS – has said: “Performing as The Tin Man was so much fun and working with such an incredible cast was an absolute pleasure. I can’t wait to come back to such spectacular venues and to perform with this ridiculously talented lot again!”
