Ujima is much more than just a radio station, as a volunteer-led, non-profit community organisation with a mission to provide a platform and give a voice to the voiceless through an unparalleled and diverse radio output.

The station's title, Ujima, is one of the 7 principles of Kwanzaa and is the Swahili word for “collective responsibility” and that is at the very core of the work that Ujima Radio does. Each year they support over 150 volunteers, amplifying the voices of individuals, groups and issues that may otherwise go unheard.

To celebrate 15 years of top quality broadcasting, Ujima have curated a lineup bursting with contemporary musical talent, reflecting their commitment to championing uniquely diverse minds in the worlds of reggae, hip-hop, dub, dancehall, afrobeat and more.

The lineup for this extra special event will be spearheaded by Bristol-born soul artist Celestine whose eclectic approach to her craft and choreography inspired by Traditional African Dance saw her make it to Tom Jones' team on BBC's The Voice back in 2014. She will be joined by J Ellis (relation to iconic singer Alton Ellis) and dancehall/reggae artist, Lixen Khan.

Completing the lineup will be a range of exciting young musical stars, showcased by Ujima, Wordlife’s Krazy and Docta Flex. The artists performing will be DJ Style, Faada Sojie, DJ Mac 3, Dancehall Generals, Angel Mel and Docta Flex.

Ujima Radio celebrate 15 Years of Broadcasting at Bristol Beacon's Lantern Hall on Saturday 9 December 2023 with tickets available for £10.90 - grab your tickets, HERE.
