Much loved Bristol rockers IDLES have this week announced their fifth album

Posted on: 20 Oct 2023

Following up on their Grammy-nominated last effort Crawler, TANGK (pronounced “tank”) looks all set to be the band’s most ambitious and striking record to date.

IDLES will release their new album, TANGK, on Friday 16 February 2024.

Alongside the announcement, IDLES have released the first single and video for the throbbing and scuzzy single, ‘Dancer’. Featuring rattling bass, ricocheting guitar, and frontman Joe Talbot’s signature snarling vocals – in the improvided hook he offers the band’s essential new mantra: "I give myself to you/As long as you move on the floor."

Formed in Bristol in 2009, IDLES are made up of vocalist Joe Talbot, guitarists Mark Bowen and Lee Kiernan, bassist Adam Devonshire and drummer Jon Beavis. The band first broke onto the scene with their ferocious album Brutalism (2017) and continued this energy with Joy as an Act of Resistance (2018) and Crawler (2021).

The eagerly anticipated new album is co-produced by Nigel Godrich (Radiohead, The Smile, Beck), the band’s guitarist Mark Bowen and Kenny Beats (Denzel Curry, Vince Staples, Benee). Having established themselves as a rock powerhouse over the last few years, TANGK displays IDLES at their very best - at once sprawling and focused, imaginative and immediate.

Speaking about the upcoming album, lead singer Talbot has said: "TANGK. I needed love. So I made it. I gave love out to the world, and it feels like magic. This is our album of gratitude and power. All love songs. All is love."

The first single from the album, ‘Dancer’ was released earlier this week. It is a love song, open to anyone who requires something to shout out loud to fend off the void. Talbot has said: "'Dancer' is the violence that comes from the pounding heart of the dancefloor and rushes through your body and gives you life from music, from love and from you."
