More than 75% of tickets have gone for Forbidden World’s The Big Scream!

With less than two weeks to go until Bristol’s largest repertory genre film festival returns with a selection of ‘popcorn horrors’, fear fanatics should act quick to secure entry.

 

Forbidden World’s The Big Scream 2023 runs at the former Bristol IMAX Cinema, Bristol Aquarium on Friday 13, and Saturday 14 October 2023.

 

A smaller version of the main festival, The Big Scream is solely focused on horror films that many film buffs would have grown up renting from video shops or watching on TV, giving you a chance to enjoy them on a massive 18m x 15m screen, courtesy of the former Bristol IMAX.

Taking place across two triple bill nights, The Big Scream 2023 promises a demon car, a killer tree, massive bugs, spiders aplenty and alien invaders – in other words, something for everyone!

 

The festival programme kicks off on Friday 13 (yes really!) with Fred Dekker’s loving homage to the 50s B-movie, Night of the Creeps. This will be followed by the director’s cut of Guillermo del Toro’s Hollywood debut, Mimic, a unique take on the American monster movie. Friday will conclude with William Friedkin’s underrated horror hokum, The Guardian.

 

Saturday begins with the Steven Spielberg-produced Arachnophobia, a film which – despite the ‘PG’ rating – ranks as one of horror’s scariest movies thanks to the abundance of eight-legged content. This will be followed by John Carpenter’s Christine, adapted from the Stephen King bestseller and premiering a new 40th anniversary version.

 

Closing the festival on the Saturday night is The Hidden. A mad, crowd-pleasing mash up of body-snatchinjg aliens and mismatched cop buddies, the movie also stars a pre-Twin Peaks Kyle Maclachlan! What a way to end the festival!

 

With tickets running low, full festival passes are priced at £35 with individual day passes available for £20. Individual screening tickets can be purchased for £8.50 or £5 for concessions.
