Avant-pop legends Stereolab are dropping by Bristol this Autumn

Posted on: 19 Sep 2023

One of the most influential groups of the 90s and 2000s, the indie outfit have today announced a handful of shows around their prestigious slot curating and performing at Le Guess Who? Festival in Utrecht.

Stereolab will play Bristol’s Marble Factory on Tuesday 14 November 2023.

Powered by Laetitia Sadier’s mesmerising vocals and Tim Gane’s droning keys, Stereolab have always been true pop experimenters, taking inspiration from film scores, krautrock and 60s rock. Don’t miss this opportunity to catch one of the most distinctive alternative groups of the last three decades.

Tickets go on sale this Friday 22 September - visit the Motion website for more information.

Anglo-French band Stereolab formed in London in 1990, with a songwriting team of Tim Gane and Laetitia Sadier’s leading the project through vintage keyboard sounds and vocals sang in both English and French.

This, alongside their krautrock inspired motorised beat, quickly made the band overnight underground sensation and their sophomore album Transient Random-Noise Bursts with Announcements proving immensely popular with the alternative scenes in both the UK and US.

This paved the way for Stereolab’s rise to indie royalty, quickly winning praise from high profile contemporaries such as Sonic Youth, Pavement and Blur (who enlisted the help of Sadier for 1994 single, ‘To The End’).

In 1996, the band released, Emperor Tomato Ketchup, a more dance focused effort that proved Stereolab’s biggest success to date. The band continued releasing material and playing live shows all the way up until 2009 when they went on an indefinite hiatus, which ended in 2019.

Stereolab’s limited run of 2023 shows across the UK and Europe will see them play shows in Hastings, Bristol, Liverpool, Nottingham, and London as well as appearances at Sonic City Festival in Kortrijk, Belgium and Le Guess Who? Festival in Utrecht, Netherlands – which the band are also curating.
