Posted on: 13 Sep 2023

SWX is one of Bristol's top destinations for music lovers with a constant stream of top live acts taking to the 1,800 capacity venue each year.

Autumn and Winter are the busiest seasons when it comes to live music and 2023 is no different with an eclectic programme featuring folk rock, Grammy-nominated R&B, country infused pop, punk rap and more on display between now and the end of the year.

Read on for our pick of the bunch when it comes to Autumn and Winter at SWX...

Half Moon Run | Thursday 14 September

Half Moon Run play a modern, dark brand of art rock, drawing on folk influences to create anthemic, harmony led indie for neoclassical heads. No matter how you classify their output though, the three-piece evoke a physical and emotional response among listeners - prepare yourselves for an exhilerating show!

Half Man Half Biscuit | Friday 15th September

Renowned Birkenhead post punks Half Man Half Biscuit are also heading to SWX this month. Still criminally underrated by many, the alternative music veterans were firm favourites of legendary DJ-tastemaker John Peel and recorded two number one albums in the 1980s, however, they shunned the spotlight and remain a cult group to this day.

Hak Baker | Thursday 28 September

A singer-songwriter at the top of his game, Hak Baker is a one-man Greek chorus and cackling conduit, leading his audience through an unsettling, exhilarating, and unexpectedly life-affirming apocalyptic fantasia.

Slaughter Beach, Dog | Sunday 1 October

The brainchild of Philadelphia-based musician Jake Ewald (best known as one quarter of celebrated lo-fi pop punk outfit Modern Baseball), Slaughter Beach, Dog are an indie rock/folk band whose fourth studio album, At the Moonbase, proved something of an underground sensation following its release in 2020.

Squid | Friday 13 and Saturday 14 October

Something of a homecoming for the Bristol-based band, October will see a double header from acclaimed art rock outfit Squid. Teeming with melodic epiphanies and multi-layered, Squid’s second album, O Monolith, is filled with its own environment, domesticity and self-made folklore.

BC Camplight | Sunday 15th November

BC Camplight is the stage name of New Jersey-born singer/songwriter Brian Christinzio, with quirkily constructed songs that combine upbeat indie pop with darker lyrical themes that reflect his personal struggles with depression.

CMAT | Wednesday 18 November

Everyone’s favourite global pop star ™ CMAT announced her upcoming sophomore record, Crazymad, For Me, with catchy summer single 'Have Fun!'; a sage-burning, fiddle-toting hit that is as much about green parakeets fluttering through London as it is about shutting the door on an era-defining relationship.

Lottery Winners | Thursday 19 November

Lottery Winners have everything you could want from an indie pop band. Charismatic frontman Thom Rylance is as witty as he is electric, Katie Lloyd provides the sultry bass, Joe Singleton is a pounding powerhouse and Rob Lally is the provider of slinky melodies - they're one in a million.

Bob Vylan | Saturday 21 November (SOLD OUT)

Kerrang! and MOBO award-winning London duo, BOB VYLAN, are descending on SWX in November.  A truly unique act, the two-piece consist of one vocalist and one drummer. One being a vital and focal mouthpiece, the other a rhythm maker and keeper.

This show is SOLD OUT, however, keep an eye on the event page for resale tickets.

Django Django | Sunday 10 December

Django Django's recently released fifth studio album, Off Planet, was conceptualised by Django Django co founder and powerhouse Dave Maclean and was released in four parts, each a seperate planet. The record incorporates new voices, new rhythms and new experimentation, acending the UK four-piece into a new musical plain.
