Over the past decade, the Yemen conflict has spiralled into one of the worst humanitarian disasters this century, with 4.5 million people displaced, more than 11,000 children killed or seriously injured and as many as 8 million people in need of urgent mental health support for associated traumas.

Providing no strings attached funds to those experiencing extreme poverty gives them the autonomy to spend according to their need. Research suggests direct cash transfers are associated with improved health and educational outcomes as well as giving women in particular more decision-making power.

The musical artists taking part in the festival include local genre nonconforming girl-boy duo Try Me, bewitching alt-pop solo act Vanity Fairy and atmospheric art rockers Quade, indie rock outfit Belishas, synth-pop two-piece BLED and many more. There will also be talks from experts Taher Qassim and Kazna Asker.

Speaking about the festival, co-organiser Leo Braukmann-Pugsley has said:

“Peace of Mind Festival is an opportunity for Bristol to let its music be an expression of global solidarity, to support those affected by the conflict and to raise awareness of an issue which too often is left out of the news cycle. Not only do we want to sensitise people to the suffering of Yemeni people, as well as raise funds to alleviate that suffering.”
