Lydon (better known under his stage name Johnny Rotten) formed Public Image Ltd in 1978 following the chaotic break up of legendary punk band The Sex Pistols. The new group was a constantly shifting musical force that allowed the notorious frontman to explore his radical ideas without constraint.

Officially abbreviate to PiL, this ever-changing nature of the band’s substantial output can be seen in everything from the bass-heavy post-punk of Public Image: First Issue in 1978, to the blend of krautrock and dub in 1979’s Metal Box, to the beefy rock of 1986’s Album, to the groovy pop of 9 in 1989 – a truly unique cocktail of influences.

While PiL have always been categorised by a constantly shifting line-up and an idiosyncratic approach to songwriting, Lydon’s cantankerous, angry and witty persona has ensured that the radical and forward-thinking nature of the band’s work has never been in doubt – something that is sure to continue in their upcoming album, End of World.

On top of their visit to Bristol, PiL will play venues in Nottingham, Glasgow, Norwich, Birmingham, London, Brighton, Frome, Southampton, Belfast, Dublin, Leeds, and Manchester as well as a number of cities around Europe. Visit the band’s website for more information about live dates.
