Take a sneak peak inside Bristol's very own speak easy bar

Posted on: 10 Jul 2023

Last week, one of Bristol's best-kept secrets, Gatsby's on Park Street, opened their doors to us for an exclusive look inside the premier prohibition-era bar.

Immerse yourself in the glitzy glamour of the Roaring 20s with this unique bar right in the middle of Bristol. Think of the opulent depiction of the Jazz Age in F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby and transfer it to a stylish bar hidden above the hustle and bustle of Park Street and you'll have Gatsby's - a hidden gem in central Bristol.

Gatsby's is located on the First Floor of 44 Park Street, Bristol, BS1 5JG and is open on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays between 6 PM and 2 AM. Book your table through email, HERE.

This privately owned, prohibition-era style bar is perfect for lovers of top-quality cocktails and socialising with loved ones in an exclusive setting tucked away from the raucous weekend crowds!

With quick, efficient table service in a very intimate and exclusive setting, Gatsby's offers everything from 'Teapot' sharing cocktails, light background jazz music, Darjeeling tea and much, much more.

During the Roaring 20s, a cocktail renaissance was afoot heralding a gilded age of drinking all over Europe. According to the Gatsby's website: "Fitzgerald’s penchant for a Sour and Hemingway’s favoured Martini became the stuff of legend" and it is this 20s tradition that the exclusive bar aims to rekindle.

Honouring the legendary cocktails of this generation, Gatsby's drink menu features classics including the Manhattan (Rye whiskey, Lillet Rouge, Angostura bitters), Old Fashioned (Bourbon whiskey, sugar, Angostura & orange bitters) and, of course, the Martini (Plymouth Gin, Lillet Blanc) and more.

There is also the option to enjoy 1920s favourites such as Mamie Taylor (Chivas 12-year-old Scotch Whisky, lime, ginger beer), Sazerac (Martell VSOP Cognac, Pernod Absinthe, sugar, Peychaud’s Bitters), Gimlet (Plymouth Gin, lime, sugar) and many more besides.

Due to prohibition, you may be served your chosen cocktail in a teapot, especially if the local police officer (who you'll meet on the door) decides to raid the bar! Classic cocktails and drinks from the prohibition era will be brought back to life by a skilled bar staff amongst the grand backdrop, colourful character and surprises!

Gatsby's is located at 44a Park Street, Bristol, BS1 5JG is open from 6 PM until 2 AM, Thursday to Sunday. While booking is not a necessity, punters are advised to book a table in advance. Secure your booking through email here or by calling 07961 521538.
