What’s On: July at O2 Academy Bristol

Posted on: 30 Jun 2023

As one of the prime destinations for the biggest acts from the UK and abroad, O2 Academy is one of the city’s most popular venues for students and Bristolians alike.

An official afterparty for one of Bristol’s biggest events, a 60s favourite and a celebration of Depeche Mode are all scheduled at one of Bristol’s biggest music venues over the next month with an array of music events planned between Saturday 8 and Friday 28 July 2023.

Bristol Pride Afterparty | Saturday 8 July

Following the day’s celebrations, what more do you want than a dance-heavy afterparty takeover featuring three incredible musical talents in the shape of headliners Shapeshifters and pop party makers Guilty Pleasures, in addition to R&SHE who will be spinning the queens of R&B.

The Pride afterparty’s biggest-ever lineup will also feature drag gogo dancers, curated performances, stunning aerial artists, dancers and nothing but good vibes to dance the night away with Pride.

Love with Johnny Echols | Sunday 9 July (NOW MOVED TO THEKLA)

Celebrating the wonderful music of garage rock legend Arthur Lee, the Love Band featuring Johnny Echols sees Lee’s longest-serving band Baby Lemonade and its original guitarist Johnny Echols perform classic songs from Love’s first three albums LoveDe Capo and Forever Changes as well as some special deep cuts.

Note: this event has been moved to Thekla but all tickets remain valid.

Spiritbox | Wednesday 12 July

Next up, it will be time for Canadian prop-metal sensations, Spiritbox, to drop by the venue. The three-piece - formed by husband and wife duo Mike Stringer and Courtney LaPlante – are currently on the road in celebration of their critically acclaimed full-length debut, Eternal Blue.

This event is sold out, however, it is worth keeping an eye on the event page for resale tickets.

The White Buffalo | Saturday 15 July

For The White Buffalo – aka, Oregon-born, Southern California-raised singer-songwriter and guitarist Jake Smith – it was time to take the less travelled path; the result was studio album number eight, the unpredictable and inventive Year of The Dark Horse. Surprising, spontaneous and genre resistant, this is your chance to witness this exciting new record live.

Devout…Depeche Mode Tribute | Friday 28 July

Fast becoming the world’s number one Depeche Mode tribute act, Devout will be playing an extra special ‘101 Concert for the Masses'. The show will see the band perform the legendary 1988 concert from the electronic pioneers on which the video ‘101’ was based on.
