“ Sound the flute!
Now it’s mute!
Bird’s delight,
Day and night,
Nightingale,
In the dale,
Lark in sky,—
Merrily,
Merrily merrily, to welcome in the year. ”
- William Blake, Spring.
That’s right, William – Spring is here, and that means one thing: Easter! Easter may be a religious festival, but its modern imagery draws a lot more on the original pagan festival of Eostre – and anyone can celebrate spring, eggs & hares.
Better yet, anyone can celebrate chocolate – and that’s what you’re here for. So, without further ado, let’s get to the top independent, handcrafted chocolate Easter eggs in Bristol.
1. Papa Deli - Clifton
Established in 2002, Papa Deli is a classic in Bristol, full to the brim with fine foods from across southern Europe. True to form, they offer some high-quality Italian chocolate eggs, as well as offerings from Bristol.
Additionally, Papa Deli run a raffle for a colossal monster easter egg each year. Tickets are just £1, and all proceeds go to the charity Caring in Bristol.

2. Zara’s Chocolates – Southville
Zara is a true indie artisan – a lifelong chocaholic with a École Chocolat Professional Chocolatier qualification, everything in her shop is handmade, and small-scale produced.
Zara offers your usual dark and milk chocolate eggs, but also offers an oat milk egg for the vegans among us – or just for anyone who wants an oaty twang to their egg!
3. Bar Chocolat – Clifton
This cute and hip, family-run ‘chocolate cafe’ sits right in the heart of Clifton Village – and has done for 12 years.
As well as being able to sit and enjoy drinking chocolate & handmade chocolate treats, this Parisian-style joint also offers chocolates to go, including – you guessed it – handmade chocolate Easter eggs.
4. Chocolatier Pionka – Gloucester Road
Also known as Chocolate Corner, Chocolatier Pionka is the cocoa dojo of master chocolatier Mariusz Pionka. After a 12-year journey across the globe perfecting his chocolate making techniques, Pionka now provides his chocolatey services to the people of Bristol – including eggs.
As well as the usual milk and dark chocolate eggs, Chocolatier Pionka also offers ‘filled’ eggs featuring fillings such as ganache, and smaller pieces like chocolate bunnies and miniature eggs.
5. Lisa’s Chocolate – Cheltenham Road
One of the newer kids on the block, Lisa of Lisa’s Chocolate actually trained with Mariusz Pionka – as well as bringing her own Barista training to the fore in order to provide you with that famously heavenly pairing, coffee & chocolate.
This year, Lisa is offering a deliciously dark 70.5% chocolate Easter Egg – with Raspberry, orange and salted caramel truffles inside!
