One of Bristol’s favourite community venues is hosting a special Grease Party

Posted on: 28 Feb 2023

Popular volunteer-run Kingsdown venue, The Cube Microplex, is hosting a Grease party like no other next month.

The Cube host Grease Party Ft Poetry on Friday 17 March.

Coupled with a poetry intro from rhymester and Grease aficionado Bridget Hart, visitors will be able to travel back to 1959 and pink ladies, T-birds, high schools, hairspray and of course Grease Lightning.

General tickets are priced at £8 and concession tickets at £5.

Good Girl Sandy Olsson (the late, great Olivia Newton-John) and lover-boy greaser Danny Zuko (John Travolta) fell in love over the summer holidays. When they unexpectedly discover they are in the same high school, will they be able to rekindle their romance despite pressure from their peers?

Fawn over the pink ladies and scream your heart out to musical hits including ‘Summer Nights’, ‘Hopelessly Devoted To You’, ‘Look At Me I’m Sandra Dee’ and ‘You’re The One That I Want’.

The screening will be partnered with a poetry intro from Bridget Hart – they/them. A queer writer, creative producer, editor and poetry mentor, Bridget has performed at prestigious events including Manchester Punk Festival, Shambala, Boomtown and Edinburgh Fringe.

Back in 2021, they released their second poetry pamphlet Chewing Gum. The piece reimagines Grease and Grease 2, taking these familiar characters and wiping away their heteronormativity for new queer possibilities. Funny and beautiful in equal measure, this will provide the perfect foil to the classic musical.

The Cube is one of Bristol’s real hidden gems: a fiercely independent cinema run by volunteers with original arts programming. In addition to films and live music the 105-seat cinema is also used for workshops, discussions and a whole lot more.

The Cube host Grease Party (ft poetry from Bridget Hart) on Friday 17 March. Tickets can be found HERE.
